11/09/2008 - College PREP - Austin, TX Adam is a young, 2011 graduate, two way player at SS and on the mound with an athletic looking body that does show projection as it continues to physically mature. Foot speed is near average and needs to improve through a speed / agility program to play in the middle of the infield at the collegiate level. Feet are efficient and utilizes well in coming to get and playing through with feet and hands. He displays smooth actions with his feet and hands in making plays. Arm strength is near above average showing life, carry, and accuracy across the diamond. At the plate, Ortega has average ability with below average power. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball and shows good balance through the lower half. Power numbers will increase as more overall body strength is developed. On the mound, breaking ball is best off speed pitch displaying tight spin and late breaking action. Changeup is solid average showing an average feel with late sink. Arm action is loose and lively with a lot of potential. With 3 years to further develop, Adam has the makings and upside to be a solid type player at the collegiate level.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
