06/15/2008 - College PREP - San Jose, CA Alan is a young, switch hitting SS with an athletic looking body. Foot speed is average but foot quickness is efficient as he moves well. Arm strength is average and more suited for 2B at the next level at present time. He needs to get on a strict long toss program to further aid in the building of arm strength. Defensive abilities are solid average. He presents soft hands and comes to get the baseball with his feet. At the plate, Sandoval shows near above average from the left side through a balanced approach. From the right side, he shows more of a load that transfer into better power from the right side. He displays a level / line drive swing path from both sides. Hands are quick, showing bat speed and he does a nice job of keeping the barrel behind and through the baseball, utilizing the entire field from both sides. Overall body strength will aid in the increase of power numbers and elevate his entire game. Alan shows a lot of potential and should get some looks from the college coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
