12/07/2014 - College PREP - McCook (Chicago), IL Alex is a big, solid 1B/OF that will graduate in 2016. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 7.10 60 time. Defensive abilities at 1B are solid as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. He recovers well on the turn of the double play, showing proper footwork, and moves well laterally, especially to glove side. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he presents hands more out front. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path as he makes consistent contact. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he gets stride foot down sooner to work on time and levels out swing path. Power numbers will increase as he learns to stay back and uses his lower half properly. With 2 years to further develop, Alex has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
