08/11/2008 - College PREP - San Diego, CA Alex is a sturdy outfielder with above average tools in most areas. As an outfielder Alex does a good job of working behind fly balls, setting himself up for a good crow hop. His throws show late carry to his target, but he may get better life out of hand, by finishing his throws better. At the plate, Alex shows a good, strong load, but he comes out of his launch position on an uphill plane. Alex is a physical hitter that will improve upon loosening up this swing and using his hands over using his shoulders. He has upside at the plate, but will need to work on learning the proper mechanics, to truly shine as a hitter. The ability is there, and the development should come.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
