12/27/2008 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2008 Hensley improved his 60-yard dash from 7.49 to 7.34. In addition, both his hitting and power improved a half grade each. His hitting approach was solid, and he made several good swings in game at bats. His plate discipline was solid as well. Defensively, he made the routine plays but did not show the same arm strength we saw before. Can work to improve his hands and glove action, needs to get a little softer out front and can work through the play better with his feet. Overall, improved offensive tools merit a jump from Class 6 to Class 5 overall rating.

08/10/2008 - College PREP - Gaffney, SC Andrew is a 2B with a solid average body that shows projection as it continues to physically mature. Foot speed is average and he needs to work on quickening feet to play in the middle at the next level, currently more suited for a corner spot. Arm strength is solid average displaying carry across the diamond. Arm action and slot are also more suited for a corner spot. Glove action is soft and solid. He does a nice job of utilizing two hands well through the fielding process. He does need to come get the baseball more with his feet, playing through. At the plate, Hensley shows average ability and raw power. Swing path is long due to an arm bar created in the load. He needs to let the ball travel, keeping hands inside the baseball to utilize the entire field. Hitting grades will improve quickly with some instruction and adjustments at the plate. Andrew has potential abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
