07/05/2008 - Team One South 2008 - Scouting Report Antonio is an athletic middle INF with good strength. In the infield he shows a very good first step to ground balls, giving him excellent range. He is efficient with his fielding movements, giving him high consistency in fielding the ball cleanly. He has good feel for his backhand and shows a quick exchange into his throwing motion. His arm is well above average, displaying life out of his hand and late carry. Antonio is a switch hitter that handles the bat very well from both sides of the plate. He obtains a quiet load and very good barrel accuracy. He has fence power from both sides of the plate, while it is noticeable that he possesses more bat speed and has more pull-side power as a left handed hitter. Overall, Antonio displays great tools and good polish in all areas. His strength will allow him to play either SS or 2B, and be a solid switch hitter at the next level.

01/11/2008 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2008 Alvarez adds to the list of excellent SS's at the UA All America. He showed an active, athletic approach to SS play with a well above avg HS arm that was very accurate. His hands, approach, and exchange to the ball are all advanced. At the plate, he was better from the right side where he was quiet & compact with good bat speed and a repeatable, line drive stroke. From the left side he was solid and has that "hitter" look. Alvarez has a bright future and will be fun to follow over his next 3 years of HS baseball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
