12/27/2008 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2008 Elkins showed a good approach to ground balls, and good overall energy defensively. He can work to get his hands and glove more out front to play the ball, and needs to stay a little lower as well. At the plate, he worked the barrel to contact on a short route and did a good job of making contact and of putting the ball in play. Can work to get more extension through contact, adding strength will help him keep his front side firm and to drive his backside through. Ran 7.62, about a half second off the 7.13 we have seen from him previously.

10/19/2008 - ACR-E - Maryland - 11 Blake improved to a class 6 because he increased his grades for arm strength, fielding, hitting, hitting for power, and his 60-time. At SS, showed the ability to play from the right and thru while fielding ground balls. Had the ability to get rid of the ball quickly and would like to see that all the time. Showed a good clean backhand. During DP turns, showed good pivot but needs to keep arm up when throwing. Shows ability to follow flips during DP. At times, he short arms his throws like a catcher. Needs to get lower to field ball to cover any balls that stay down. Had a good level swing with balance throughout the swing. Had that ability to find the barrel. By keeping hands inside ball, he will have ability to get to hitting zone faster and use all fields. As he gets stronger, his bat speed and power will improve.

07/27/2008 - New York Pro Weekly Training Elkins hit from a balanced approach, and had good overall swing mechanics. He used his lower half well, though he needs to work to get his stride foot down sooner. Bat speed was average, can work to get the bat head more out front and needs to get more extension through contact. Defensively, he showed good fundamentals and body control. His hands, routes and overall approach were solid. Needs to improve his lateral quickness and his arm strength, while adding overall strength to his frame stands out as his biggest area for improvement. Ran 7.50 in the 60-yard dash.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
