08/09/2008 - College PREP - Greensboro, NC Blane is a young outfield with average body that shows projection as it continues to physically mature. Arm strength is average from an over the top slot. He does get rid of the baseball through a quick release. He does need to get on a strict long toss program to continue to further develop more arm strength. Foot speed is below average and he does need to work to increase foot speed to play in the outfield at the next level. He shows aggressive feet and takes proper angles but does need to work to get behind the baseball to play through with momentum to target. At the plate, Butler has average ability and power. He works to keep hands inside the baseball, utilizing all fields. He shows a solid feel for the barrel, especially to the pull side. Hitting grades will improve quickly if some flaws are corrected through instruction and work. Blane is young with ability and time to continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
