05/19/2013 - College PREP - Severn (Baltimore), MD Vega ran a 6.87 and showed solid overall skills during his workout in Severn, MD. He has athletic actions, a loose arm, and soft / sure hands. He has plus bat speed, his swing is short, and he uses his lower body very well.

03/20/2011 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Brandon showed very solid skills once again both offensively and defensively at his most recent workout in Baltimore. He is an athletic, well built OF, with quick feet, and soft hands. He moves well laterally, works behind the ball quickly, and he plays through. Brandon has a strong, accurate arm with life and carry to his target. At the plate, Brandon has a square / athletic set-up, short stride, and plus bat speed. He is short to the ball, he can hit to all fields, and he has pop in his bat.

07/12/2009 - Team One South 2009 Brandon continues to show consistency with his above-average skills. Went 2-4 with 2 BBs during the event. In the OF, demonstrated good solid athletic actions as he aggressive went to and played thru balls. Showed loose arm action with life on throws. Kept everything on line to target and follow thru with lower half. Made it look easy. At the plate, had level swing thru hitting zone which allowed him to center most balls. Showed good balance with a short compact stroke. Had above average bat speed and hit line drives all over the field.

01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Brandon is simply an athlete. He can play at the next level, especially on the defensive side. In the OF, Brandon shows range and a quick first step. He gets to just about everything. His arm works well and he throws the ball with accuracy and efficiency. At the plate, Brandon uses his above average hand/eye coordination to light up opposing pitching. He stays through the ball and has some power to the pull side. Right now his defensive ability is his best tool and there is no reason to doubt that his offensive game won't be there for coaches coming to watch him.

07/19/2008 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Brandon improved his home-1st time during this event. In the OF, was aggressive to balls with proper angles. Had ability to get behind ball and play thru with accurate arm. Carry will improve with better direction and not falling off after throw. At the plate, had a simple approach with short compact swing. Had level path with quick hands that led to good bat speed and showed barrel accuracy with pop. At times, he would get under ball and swing uphill. On the mound, had good tempo, balance throughout motion, and direction to HP. Would like to see him keep eyes on target and utilize lower half better. Increased arm speed will help create more velo and tighter break on CB.

07/05/2008 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Brandon didn't give up a run in his outing. In the OF, his quick feet allowed him to be aggressive to ball and play thru them well. Took appropriate angle to get to ball. Throws had some carry to them. Threw from an open position which took away some velo and accuracy was inconsistent. At the plate from both sides, had good setup with ability to hold ground. Needs more overall strength which will produce better bat speed and increase pop. On the mound, had good balance and tempo throughout with loose arm action. Showed good separation with appropriate direction to home plate. Slowed his arm speed on CB which gave away pitch. Long toss will help improve arm strength and velo.

01/11/2008 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2008 Brandon has really improved since the first time that we observed him. He has the making to be a solid outfielder at the next level. He displays a short swing path with very quick hands from the right side. He has a solid set up and looks very hitterish at the plate. As Brandon's body continues to mature and develop, his power numbers will rise. In the outfield, Brandon shows a lot of athletic ability. He displays the ability to read the ball off the bat, getting good jumps in tracking down balls in the outfield. His arm strength has improved the most, showing above average life and carry into his target. Brandon has a promising future at the next level.

07/19/2007 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Brandon gets better every time we see him. RHH is really coming around and needs to continue to focus on it. He is a young player that is going to develop into something special as he continues to develop. He showed on the mound but does not project well there.

06/23/2007 - Junior Olympic Tournament (AZ) - 2007 Vega continues to show lots of improvement. He now is becoming a solid player at the next level in the outfield. He improved foot speed and should become a sub 7 runner. He showed a lot of character about himself. He still struggles from the left side of the plate, needs to concentrate on RHH only.

02/23/2007 - Spring Training Camp 2007 Saw at Spring Training Camp. RH stroke is simple and repeatable with many line drives.

11/18/2006 - Hitting Mini-Camp (commuter) He shows excellent hand-eye coordination.

06/25/2006 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Vega worked both in the OF and INF. He showed good footwork and a smooth arm stroke. In the INF, he showed decent hands and feel for 2B. At the plate, he showed good rhythm with a level path.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
