10/12/2008 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Brett is a 2007 graduate with a ton of athletic ability. Arm strength is near superior from the outfield displaying life, carry and outstanding accuracy. He gets his body into a strong throwing position. Foot speed is near above average and he utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat, getting great jumps and displaying solid range. He takes proper routes and angles in getting behind the baseball to play through with momentum to target. Behind the plate, Roye continues to show off his arm strength and athletic feet as indicated by his consistent pop times below 2.00. His transfer and exchange is quick and once again gets his body into a strong throwing position. Receiving and blocking skills are near above average and will play at the collegiate level. At the plate, hitting abilities are near above average with solid average power. Bat speed is a plus through a level swing path creating a line drive approach. He is a strong and has strength in his swing, especially to the pull side. With minor adjustments, Roye will hit at the next level. Brett has a ton of potential and if a college is in need of an OF/C, he is the man.

09/18/2005 - College PREP - Needham, MA Improved 60 time .12 secs (7.43). Ratings remain the same as previously reported in Sept '05. Was coachable and showed good work habits. Roye has a thin and lanky body and he moves well in the OF and behind the plate. He showed the best in the OF - has active feet, creates good angles, and shows life in his arm out of hand. Behind the plate he was efficient blocking and receiving, but he needs to work on his set-up and footwork to throw. He showed a level path with a simple repeatable swing, and he did use the lower half. Would like to see him stiffen his front leg, and keep his front side closed longer. Also using his hands more and getting some extension will improve hitting numbers.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
