12/27/2008 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2008 Lauer improved his 60-yard dash two tenths of a second, down from 7.55 to 7.35. In addition, he jumped his top end fastball velocity four mph, up from 78 to 82. Defensively, he showed athletic ability along with versatility to play multiple positions. His hands were soft and he showed great infield range. At the plate, he showed the ability to handle the bat from both sides of the plate. His setup and approach were solid, and he showed good athletic ability in his swing. On the mound, his arm worked well and he showed good control. Can work to get more level with his shoulders in order to get his release more out front, will especially help improve the rotation on his breaking ball. Overall, a talented and versatile player and a solid college prospect.

09/07/2008 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Brian is a two way player on the mound and at SS, where he shows as a switch hitter. He currently does project best at SS where he has athletic abilities. Foot speed in near average and he needs to get on a speed/agility program to improve. His feet are aggressive and active in coming to get and playing through the baseball. Glove action is soft, clean, and sure in making all the plays. He shows off his athletic actions in his feeds and turns of the double play. Arm strength is solid average and gets rid of the baseball quickly. He does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength. At the plate, Lauer shows best from the left side where he has solid average ability and power. From the right side, abilities and power are average. Bat speed is a plus and he does show a feel for the barrel. On the mound, changeup is his best pitch showing a solid feels for with sinking actions. Command is near above average with all his pitches. Brian needs to concentrate his work in the infield and at the plate, where his future rests. If foot speed does not come around, could become a 3B.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
