Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

08/30/2008 - ACR-E - Maryland - 9 Bryan improved his 60-time, velocity, and arm strength while at this event. At 3B, was aggressive to all balls and had soft hands while fielding ball. Was able to follow throws which led to accurate throws. Earlier approach will allow him to field ball out front and get rid of it. As a RH hitter, looked more natural and was able to keep head on ball. Generated some bat speed that led to pull-side power. Flashed the ability to have up-the-middle approach. As a LH hitter, had square stance with ability to keep head on ball. A pre-pitch load will not allow him to wrap bat and be quicker to hitting zone. Improving overall strength will increase power potential and bat speed. On the mound, was able to keep eyes on target with consistent mechanics. Showed good separation with good direction towards HP. When he had good glove side lead, was able to extend thru pitches. Long toss will help improve arm speed which can lead to better velocity and tighter spin.

07/10/2008 - Cape Cod Training 2008 - Week 1 DiGiovanni ran 7.50 in the 60-yard dash, the best time we have seen from him to date. He also topped at 73 mph with his fastball, the highest reading we have seen from him to date. His arm worked well on the mound, and he maintained solid balance through his delivery. Can work to eliminate his tendency to throw across his body, needs to drive down the mound better with his lower half. At the plate, he showed good hand-eye coordination along with very good bat speed. Showed gap power with potential for more. Needs to avoid wrap in load, and needs to stay on the balls of his feet in the box. Defensively, he showed soft hands and good body control. Needs to improve his overall agility and quickness. Overall, has shown good progress with the development of his skills to this point.

09/30/2007 - ACR-E-Maryland 10 Bryan brings energy and hustle with him. At 1B, showed soft hands, ability to field ball out in front, and an accurate arm. Long toss will help improve arm speed and velo. Would like to see a consistent ready position, stay down to field ball, and follow the throw. At the plate he is a switch-hitter. Identical swing from both sides. Had square stance, a line-drive approach with use of all fields and barrel accuracy. Would like to see better use of lower half and relax hands on bat. Improving overall strength will help with bat speed and pop. On the mound, had a balanced approach with eyes on target. Had good fielding position after pitch. Long toss will help improve arm strength and movement. Once at balance point, keep front side closed and would like to see more explosion towards HP.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
