12/27/2008 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2008 Brown topped at 81 on the mound, a one mph jump from the last time we saw him. He threw his curveball for strikes, but in general needs to work hard to get ahead in the count so that he can attack hitters better. His arm worked pretty well for the most part, and his delivery was mostly solid as well. Needs to avoid tendency to fly open with front side, this caused much of his control trouble since it did not allow him to find a consistent release point. Defensively, he showed some athleticism and potential that could be developed with work. At the plate, he featured a short route to contact and a simple swing. Has some two-way potential, but it will depend on how much interest he has in working on anything other than pitching. Lowered his 60-yard dash from 7.90 to 7.71.

09/21/2008 - College PREP - Overland Park, KS Caesar is a young two way player on the mound and behind the plate with a solid average body. He has improved since the last time we saw him in all areas. Arm strength has improved now slightly average but does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength. Foot work is solid and proper in throwing mechanics but is somewhat slow and heavy. His feet and arm work well together but needs to speed up actions. At the plate, Brown has slightly average ability and power. He shows quick hands through a level swing path creating a line drive type hitter. Swing path does get long and needs to let ball travel to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. On the mound, fastball shows some tail and has command to both sides of the plate. Breaking balls displays a 11/5 shape with tight spin. He has a solid feel for his change with fading action. With two years to further develop, Caesar has potential to develop into a solid player with work.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
