04/03/2022 - Official Player Development Membership - Windsor (Madison), WI Charlie is a C/RHP prospect who will graduate high school in 2027. A young/developing player who has plenty of time to add strength. Behind the dish, he showed active/efficient footwork, with an easy sit, and has good lateral movement. He sets up in low/square stance and presents a low target as he tracks pitches well. Tries to work around ball with good direction towards second base. Has a long arm stroke in the back as he works to a high 3/4 release point on his throws down to 2nd base with an arm velocity up to 68mph and a best pop time of 2.53 seconds. Showed a good spine angle on his blocks with a soft chest. On the mound, Charlie gathers over the rubber, with a good rear hip coil, and gets his chest over his front knee. He works with good tempo and keeps his head locked on target throughout his delivery. He attacks hitters with a FB that sits 56-58mph with some movement, a 12/6 shaped breaking ball, and a changeup with arm side run that he throws with FB arm speed. CH was best pitch during his bullpen session. This right-handed hitter hits from an athletic and open stance. Takes a square glide step, with a good hip turn to contact point, and keeps his weight between his knees. He hit line drives to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 57mph. With 5 years of continued growth and development, we foresee this 2-way prospect having a bright future ahead of himself.

07/14/2020 - Official Player Development Membership - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Charlie is a young (2027 grad) 2-way player as a C/RHP. Behind the dish, he sits in and tracks pitches into his mitt. He works laterally around pitches in the dirt and keeps the ball close in front using a soft chest. He has a clean transfer to throw with pop times at 3.28. Pop times will continue to drop as he increases his arm-strength (long toss) and quickens his transfer. At the plate, this righty shows a crouched stance with balance. He takes a hack, barrels the ball up and looks to drive the middle of the field. More hand separation on his load while engaging his lower 1/2 more will help to increase power at the plate. On the mound, Ward has a 3-pitch mix coming from an over-the-top arm slot. FB ranges from 56-58 mph as he commands the zone. Curveball has 9/3 shape with early action. Changeup has slight cut and compliments his FB well. Getting more glove-side lead/tuck while finishing with extension will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. Only a 2027 grad - Charlie has skills with still a ton of time to progress.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.
