10/08/2008 - Florida National Tournament - 2008 Michelena showed a solid glove and some arm strength at second base. He can work to improve his first step quickness, and needs to work to soften his hands and glove action as well. At the plate, he showed the makings of a short route to contact. Tended to hitch with his hands to load, and hung on his back side - resulting in an upper cut path, which caused him to roll over many balls. Needs to work to keep his hands higher from load through contact, and to get his weight forward through contact to help flatten his stroke. On the mound, he jumped his top end fastball two mph, up from 81 to 83. His arm worked well, and his fastball had some sink at times. Needs to work on his secondary pitches, and needs to work to keep his front shoulder in line with the plate longer. Overall, needs to get stronger to help develop his tools further - future is likely best as a position player.
