12/07/2008 - College PREP - Cedar Hill (DFW), TX Edwin is a tall, lean infielder with above average offensive tools. His body moves fairly well to the play at shortstop. He uses a nice wide, low base, and has average arm strength. Would life to see him field the ball out in front more consistently and lighten up his footwork. He tends to throw against his front leg instead of keeping his momentum through the play. He is a switch hitter with a better feel from the left side at present. On the left side, he has a good load, batspeed, and a line drive approach. He cuts off that swing a bit and would like to see him get a little more weight transferred as well. Approach on the right side is a bit stiff. He tends to roll over and his bat doesn't get through the zone as well from this side. He has time to fill out and needs to continue to work on speed and arm strength.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
