01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Eric showed very well defensively during his time at the Pre-Season. Behind the plate, Eric had pop times as low as 1.96, and showed quick feet, soft hands, and athletic actions. He has a soft chest when blocking, he looks the ball into his glove, and he tracks it well. Eric gains ground, his transfer is quick, and he throws with a short arm action, accuracy with carry to his target. At the plate, Eric showed accurate hands, good balance, and the ability to stay on top of pitches. He is a contact hitter who can hit hard to the pull side.

08/21/2011 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Eric has improved his arm strength as the topped out at 81 mph at the arm strength station. Throws display life, accuracy and on line carry through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed a range of 2.15 - 2.22. Receiving and blocking skills have really improved, now showing as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. Offensively, Jones has also improved hitting abilities to outstanding skills through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a short, compact path. He works to keep hands through the ball at contact, creating extension through a level swing path.

06/24/2010 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2 Jones continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities as he improved his hitting and power grades at the event and is now a tier B type player. He shows a smooth, easy swing with his hands working inside the baseball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to utilize his lower half with proper weight transfer through the swing.

05/02/2010 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Eric is a young, Catcher with a good set of defensive skills. Eric is quiet behind the plate, works around the ball, and has a soft glove. He has good flexion, covers the "5" hole when blocking, and he centers the ball well on his chest. Eric shows good athleticism behind the plate, has a good exchange, and an accurate arm to his target. Added arm strength, and throwing from a lower position should help already solid grades further improve. At the plate, Eric is well balanced and has some barrel accuracy. He has a level swing, but will need to improve his load, rhythm, and lower 1/2 in order for offensive grades to further improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
