Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

08/06/2012 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Grimes showed as a SS/RHP at the event and continue to show as a solid player. At SS, his feet are active / aggressive as he moves well laterally, displaying range in the MIF. His hands are soft / clean / sure as he makes all the plays. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with throws displaying accuracy / carry across the diamond. At the plate, Evan shows quick hands that work through a level swing path. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to load more and transfer his weight properly through his lower half. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-79 mph with a quality breaking ball that will gets out at the next level.

05/13/2012 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Evan continues to show improvement as he physically matures. Grades in the infield have improved by doing a better job of presenting his glove out in front with an athletic low fielding position. Hands are sure and soft with fluid footwork. Arm strength has improved and will continue to get better carry as he plays through the ball finishing his throws. At the plate, Evan has a good balanced approach with a good load and strong lower half. He is a line-drive type hitter with good extension thru contact. He can continue to improve hitting grades by getting a little bit wider base and working on better rhythm through his swing.

07/20/2010 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Evan is a young (2013) two-way player on the mound and at 3B with a thin frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Currently, he projects best at 3B for the next level. Feet are active but needs to be more aggressive in coming to get and playing through the baseball. Hands are soft and clean, but deep due to his feet stopping through the fielding process. Throws shows accuracy but needs to get on a long toss program to aid in providing more carry. Offensively, Grimes shows a balanced stance through a line drive approach but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 68-73 mph with near average off speed pitches that need further development to be quality pitches at the next level. With 3 years to further develop, Evan has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
