Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Francisco continues to show steady improvement in his baseball abilities. He does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and raise velocities on the mound. He shows active feet in taking proper routes and angles, playing through balls in the OF. He has improved the mechanics of his delivery, showing a loose, easy arm action. His stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is developed. At the plate, he showed bat speed through the point of contact, displaying extension through the ball. Power numbers will continue to increase as more overall body strength is developed. Fuentes has abilities with a lot of room to continue to improve.

10/15/2008 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic - 2008 Fuentes lowered his 60-yard dash time from 7.63 to 7.31, and improved his top end fastball velocity from 81 to 85 mph since we last saw him in September 2008. A longer and closer look during this event revealed a player with a lot of talent and tremendous upside potential. He showed a short, quick stroke at the plate along with a loose and live body - generated good pull power, and has potential to develop more with strength. In the outfield, his routes and angles were good and he showed an above average arm. His arm was loose on the mound as well, and he topped at 85 from a three quarters angle. His fastball had sink at times, his breaking ball had good rotation and depth, and he showed good feel for his changeup. Was mostly around the zone with his pitches, all of which were solid average to above average. Overall, he has the raw tools to excel at the college level. Needs to work to develop them and bring them out a bit more, making him worth a close follow.

09/21/2008 - College PREP - Azusa, CA Francisco has a lot of promise in his future baseball career. He has a very projectable frame, which is likely to fill in giving him a huge advantage over the average high school player. On the mound, Francisco shows decent control with average mechanics. It is apparent that he is fairly raw with his delivery, but there is some natural ability in his arm. He has good arm side run with his fastball and change up and will need to work on getting a better feel for his release point on all pitches. At the plate, Francisco really put on quite a display centering the ball with consistency. He has a good load and he initiates good bat speed with his lower half. He creates great leverage with his lengthy arms. An area of improvement will be in implementing more top hand into his swing. This will allow him to hit the pitch away with similar authority as he hits the pitch middle/in. Overall, Francisco really stands out at the plate and has a high ceiling due to his physique. He will gain plenty of attention from college coaches as a hitter as his natural talents translate into live games.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
