12/27/2007 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2007 McKeon is a long, lean and wiry young left handed pitcher. He showed the ability to stay mostly around the plate with his pitches, and his fastball had some arm side life. Can work to clean up his balance to help his arm work on a more consistent path out of the glove and out front to a more consistent release point. Can also work on his direction, front hip and shoulder need to stay in line longer to help him keep his fingers behind the ball longer - will help him improve his curveball rotation, and should also help him improve the plane on his fastball. Also showed solid defensive ability at first base. Needs to work on keeping his front side in longer, and on flattening out his stroke at the plate. Has more value on the mound at present, though he does have some two-way potential as well.

05/27/2007 - College PREP - Phoenix, AZ Shows soft hands and a life in his arm at 1B. Effort and actions are steady. Some quickness in his feet. Would like to see him improve his prep work and double play feeds. There is a collapse on the backside early in the swing. Lacks extension and works uphill. Inside out approach, but get the bat head to the ball. Works to the middle of the field consistently. On the mound, Gaige shows a quick arm. Path is short, but direction and acceleration in the top half are solid. More of a slinger right now. Would like to see him use his lower half more effectively. Long, lean body with some wirey strength to it. Room to grow. One to keep an eye over the next two years.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
