01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Mahn has a solid arm behind the plate. Works his body in a straight line and throws the ball with a downhill plane. Quick feet and a nice transfer in general. Could use his lower half more effectively on the throw. Deadens the ball well on the block. Gives a nice low stance and target but could firm up the glove on the catch. With the bat, he stands in with balance and gets a lot out of his lower half. His batspeed is ok, but he is strong. Has some lift to his approach which cuts off his extension and hurts his barrel accuracy. Solid catching prospect.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
