12/19/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #1 Jeff's skills were on display in Pirate City, where he participated as an OF. He has a compact, quick body with good athleticism. Jeff also has good instincts and play skills as well. In the OF, Jeff is quick to the ball and he takes good routes. He fields ground balls well, and has an accurate arm both in practice and game play. Jeff should incorporate a throwing program into his off-season routine to further improve arm strength. Offensively, Jeff has good balance and bat speed. He has a short, compact stroke with good quickness out of the box. Jeff has good barrel accuracy, but will need to develop strike zone awareness in order to improve offensively.

08/03/2009 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Jeff is a two-way player in the OF and as a catcher with a small, athletic frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Currently, he projects best in the OF where he displaying near above average defensive abilities. Foot speed is average and he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active and aggressive in taking proper routes and angles in tracking down balls in the OF. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to target. He has an idea and feel for his play in the OF. Arm slot is low causing run on his throws and needs to raise arm slot, staying on top of throws. Arm strength is slightly above average and he must get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry on throws. Pop times show a range of 2.11 - 2.30 with a means of 2.25. Footwork to throw is solid through an efficient transfer / exchange. Pop times will lower as more arm strength is developed. Receiving skills are slightly above average with solid average blocking skills. At the plate, Harder has solid average abilities and power through a balanced approach. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball, flashing bat speed. Swing path is level and he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields showing a feel for the barrel. Jeff has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his abilities in the OF and at the plate.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
