08/10/2011 - Pirate City World Series 2011 - Session 2 Jesse continues to show improvement in his game. On the mound he showed similar arm strength with good command of all pitches. His off-speed pitches were thrown with good arm speed and had good movement to them. He needs to work on a slide step to help keep runners from taking the extra base. In the outfield he showed good arm strength with good carry and a clean exchange. He needs to continue to work on his aggressiveness to the ball and field with a lower base. At the plate he shows a solid setup with a level path and the ability to use the entire field. He gets long at times and is late in getting his front foot down early for pitch recognition. Jesse is still very young and has a good chance to play at the next level with continued hard work on the mound. Arm strength should help his pitching ability greatly.

06/05/2011 - College PREP - Troy (Albany), NY Jesse is a tall, athletic 2-way player that pitches and plays OF. On the mound, Jesse has a good pitchers body, a long / loose arm action, and a FB touching 82 MPH. He has a tall / controlled balance point, level shoulders, and he works in good rhythm. Jesse is around the zone with all of his pitches and he lands in a complete position. Abilities on the mound can improve if Jesse can try to not land closed off, sharpen his command, and add arm strength. In the OF, Jesse is aggressive to the ball, his feet are quick and fluid, and he plays in a low / athletic position. He plays through the ball, his exchange is quick and clean, and he throws with accuracy and carry to his target. Not camping under the ball, using 2 hands, and adding arm strength through long toss should help defensive abilities improve. At the plate, Jesse has a tall set-up, a short stride, and good balance. He has average bat speed, a level swing, and he makes square / consistent contact. Jesse swings in good rhythm, he can spray the ball to all fields, and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. Hitting grades can improve if Jesse can loosen his grip, shorten his swing, and throw his hands more directly to the ball.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
