01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Hawes continues to show steady improvements in his baseball abilities. He shows as a two way player at 2B and on the mound, projecting best at 2B for the next level. Foot speed is well above average and he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well through the fielding and throwing process. He does need to come get ground balls more with his feet, playing through with momentum to his target. Backhand is solid and he is not afraid to use it. He shows off his athletic ability on his play on slow rollers. He needs to stay on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. Power at the plate has improved, now showing above average. He has strength in his swing as the baseball jumps off his bat. He does show potential on the mound and could develop into a two way player at the next level. Jimmy has the makings to be a solid player as he continues to develop.

11/09/2008 - College PREP - Austin, TX Jimmy had another consistent showing at 2B. On the mound, he showed more late life on FB then before and improved his CH grade. At 2B, showed a quick release on accurate throws with decent carry. Starts with low base when getting ready to field ball. Quick feet allow him to have good range with ability to use soft hands and field ball out front. Long toss will help loose arm action and create more velocity. Using lower half with hip rotation on DP turns will allow him to get rid of ball quicker. At the plate, had good setup which allowed him to stay thru it, use all fields, and effectively used his lower half. At times, would loop and come around ball which made the swing long. On the mound, FB had late life while CB was 12/6 with tight spin and CH showed good feel and run on it. Had loose arm action with good direction that allowed him to use his lower half. Would like to see him take his time and not rush thru his balance point.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
