08/04/2008 - College PREP - Cleveland, OH Joey is a 1B with a solid average body suited for the position. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 60 time. He utilizes his athletic feet well in coming to get the baseball. Arm strength is average and he needs to get on a strict long toss program to continue to further build. Glove action is deep allowing the baseball to get deep in on his body, dictating play. He needs to present his glove/hands down and out in front of his body and play through with feet and hands. He works hard and shows solid feeds on double plays. At the plate, Borrelli shows near average ability. He uses all fields and shows a feel for the barrel. Bat speed is below average and does need some instruction and work on his approach. Joey has ability with a lot of room to improve.

06/19/2008 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - 2008 Borrelli ran 7.16 in the 60-yard dash, certainly more indicative of his potential running ability than the 5.25 we recorded for his 40-yard dash at an indoor event in February 2008. He showed a good path with his hands and barrel through the hitting zone, and did a very good job of driving through with his lower half. With work on letting the ball travel deeper into the hitting zone, and on getting his stride foot down sooner, he has potential to improve his power - will be able to drive through contact, and will be able to track pitches longer which will help him improve his pitch recognition abilities. At first base, he showed good hands and defensive positioning. Infield footwork to the ball and around the bag have room for improvement.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
