07/29/2008 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament - 2008 Ruffino has some upside at the plate where his ability rates best. He has some bat speed to work with and good lower half prep. His hands are quick and his stroke is easy to the ball. He needs to focus on relaxing his top half and improving his lower half balance and explosion. He has more in his swing if he will let the ball travel and stay through the ball more. Defensively he projects best in left field. He has some natural ability but needs polish. His routes and angles are good but foot speed needs work for the outfield. He will be able to improve on his arm strength by working lower through his fingers on top of the ball while throwing.

05/25/2008 - College PREP - Phoenix, AZ Joey has a tall, athletic body that shows a lot projection. Arm strength is near above average showing life and carry from the outfield to his target. He does a nice job of utilizing his feet and body through the throwing process. Joey does need to improve his foot speed to aid in running down balls in the outfield at the next level. At the plate, Joey shows near above average raw power at the plate. He drives the baseball when he centers it. He does need to become more consistent with his approach but flashes a ton of ability. If he continues to work and improve, Joey will become a solid prospect at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
