Official Scouting Report

06/14/2008 - ACR-E - California - 1 Jonathan is a tall, strong, athletic OF with good speed. In the OF, was aggressive to balls with decent angles. Showed good carry on ball with use of long hop while staying downhill on throws. Eliminating the double pump with allow for a quicker transition. Would like to see him get behind ball instead of drifting and then explode through ball. At the plate, shows good raw power from strong upper body and ability to stay back and use lower half. His swing is downward to contact. Stiffness will tighten muscles and lose quickness. Has a slight wrap which produces an out and around swing. Has a max-effort swing which makes him lose balance at times.

12/27/2007 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2007 Rosen injured his knee before this event, not allowing him to participate at 100% of his capability. He could not run, nor could he really use his lower half at the plate. He still was able to show good bat speed and a solid move through the zone at the plate, and he showed good plate discipline in his game at bats. On the mound, his fastball velocity was at the lower end of what we have seen from him - likely due to his inability to drive down the mound with his lower half. Prior to this event, he showed a well rounded set of tools on top of his long and lean body.

10/07/2007 - College PREP - Colorado Springs, CO Rosen has a lean and long body with square shoulders some present strength. Lowered his 60 from 7.65 to 7.46 and made progress with the bat since we saw him last. Showed a flat, line drive stroke with gap power. Route was short and simple. Double tap stride gave him a little trouble, mostly with letting the ball travel. Generated little torque with his body, an improvement here can help improve power. Top end fastball jumped 4 mph since we saw him in January.

01/12/2007 - Under Armour All-America Game 2007 Jonathan gets average carry on the throw from the OF. Works on a line, and takes good routes to the ball. At the plate he uses a toe-tap in his prep work and a big rock back as well. Swing tends to get long early and is heavy on the front foot. Can quiet down his load a bit so his actions are shorter and his weight can stay between his feet. Stuff on the mound is average. Only offspeed is a changeup right now. Some good late sink to that pitch, but will need to develop a breaking ball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
