07/13/2011 - College PREP - Washington DC, MD Kenny improved both his arm and fielding grades from 45's to 48's during his workout in Washington, DC. He showed soft / sure hands, fluid / active feet, and good lateral movements. Kenny presents his glove well, he fields in an athletic position, and he plays on the balls of his feet. He has a clean exchange and throws with a short arm action with accuracy and carry across the diamond. Offensively, Kenny has a square / athletic set-up, a proper load, and a short / square stride. He has good balance, fast bat speed, and he makes square contact. Kenny swings in good rhythm, he gets good extension through the ball, and he makes decent use of his lower 1/2. Offensive tool grades can further improve with added strength and more direct hands to the ball.

04/17/2011 - College PREP - Ashburn (DC), VA Finzel continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.05. He utilizes his quick feet well in his lateral movements defensively, displaying range. Hands and feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly showing accuracy and carry on throws. Glove action is soft, clean, and sure as he makes all the plays. Offensively, hitting grades have also improved since we last saw him. Swing path is compact and direct as he shows a solid feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Power is best to the pull side due to an arm bar created in his load.

06/17/2010 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Kenneth is a young, athletic, projectable 2-way player that plays SS and RHP. He currently projects better at SS, but still has time to improve at both positions. In the INF, Kenneth uses his feet well and has soft hands. He makes plays on balls hit his way and has "big play" potential. Kenneth has good arm strength for his age and throws accurately across the diamond. Defensive abilities can continue to improve if Kenneth can add arm strength and attack the ball more aggressively. On the mound, Kenneth has good arm speed and a nice arm path. His FB touches 81 MPH, and his off-speed pitches compliment it well. More fluid mechanics, and better extension with his pitches should allow for mound effectiveness to further improve. At the plate, Finzel is an aggressive hitter with a good set-up and proper load. He has good strike zone awareness and flashes pull side pop in his bat. Hitting can further improve if he can let the ball travel deeper, avoid pulling off, and level off his swing. He has good instincts, athleticism, and play skills and should be a good college player once he graduates in 2012.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
