Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

10/15/2008 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic - 2008 Hibert showed a talented offensive player. His bat speed was very good, and his stroke was compact and allowed him to hit hard line drives that had potential to carry through the gaps. Can work to let the ball travel more consistently, otherwise he is a solid offensive prospect. At first base, he showed good hands on short hops. Can work to use his feet better in general, both in terms of improving footwork and overall quickness. Arm strength is also an area for improvement. Topped at 83 mph on the mound, and showed solid arm action. Showed some feel for his curve and change as well, just needs to pitch more to contact. Overall, a better prospect as a position player - though he has some ability to work with on the mound.

08/23/2008 - ACR-E - California - 3 Kurt showed his athleticism around the bag. He has active feet, good range, and has an idea for proper footwork around the bag. He showed the best on double play turns. Would like to see him keep his feet moving through the fielding process and soften his hands. He showed his strength at the plate, flashed some bat speed, centered balls well, and gets extension. If he shortens his base he will have more balance and be able to maximize his power. On the mound he topped out at 83 mph and his arm works well downhill. CB had 11/6 type break with tight spin and above average depth. Needs more consistency with secondary stuff to offset his FB. He could be a possible two-way guy at the next level.

11/11/2007 - ACR-E California 6 Kurt has a big athletic body and brought a good work ethic to the field. In the OF, arm shows good carry and accuracy. Low approach to fielding ball and adjusts well off the bat. Improving foot speed will allow for greater range and quicker actions. Would like to see him stay high through throw so there is no arm-side run. On the mound, has loose arm actions and life to ball. Takes a direct path to HP with his good mechanics. Has no lower half explosion which makes his pitches all arm. Would like to see a better backside which will help extension through pitch and better use of lower half. At the plate, has a solid base with explosion off the barrel. Once he keeps his backside from breaking down, he will have more consistency with lower half power. Swing is more with shoulders which makes it long and uphill. Would like to see him stay on the ball, instead of fly open, which will improve extension through ball.

06/20/2007 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament Kurt has a strong body, shows life in the arm, and has pop in his bat. On the mound, has nice whip on FB. Develop more sound mechanics and will improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
