12/27/2008 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2008 Hawkins showed a gritty, hard-nosed player. At the plate, he showed a simple swing with quick hands and good bat speed. He hit from an athletic base, and showed good barrel accuracy. Defensively, he moved his feet well and showed solid arm strength. Body control and ability to throw on the run showed on slow roller plays. His double play work was solid, but needs to work to keep his hands and glove more out in front of him on routine plays. Ran 7.58 in the 60-yard dash. Overall, "baseball player" type with solid tools.

08/31/2008 - College PREP - Nashville, TN Luke is a 2B with above average defensive ability. Foot speed is slightly abvove average but shows active feet in moving laterally. He does need to get come get and play through routine balls with his feet. Glove action is soft, sure, and presented out in front of his body, looking all balls in. He is solid with his turns and feeds with the double play. Arm strength is slightly above average and he does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength. At the plate, Hawkins has slightly above average ability and power. Swing path is level but long due to an arm bar created in his load. He shows a feel for the barrel to the pull side. Hitting grades and power will increase with some instruction and adjustments in his approach. Luke has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
