  • LHPPosition Projection

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Matt is a well-built LHP prospect who has high upside and graduates in 2017. On the mound, Matt has a deceptive delivery and repeats his mechanics well. He is well balanced and on-time throwing from a 3/4 slot with quick arm action. He extends through his release and stays square to home plate. Matt finishes well with his chest over his front knee. He commands his fastball with good run at 83-87 MPH. Matt also features a medium breaking curveball and deceptive changeup. Matt has good pitchability and works with good poise. Overall, Matt has a projectable frame and a talented skill set that will play at the next level.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Turner is a tall, lanky two-way LHP/1B that will graduate in 2017. On the mound, the lefty uses a three pitch mix and showed clean arm action and deception to his delivery inducing many ground balls. A consistent strike thrower with three pitches, Matt will benefit from creating extension on his release in order to add more action to pitches and for him to get the most out of his pitcher's body. As a 1B, Turner shows sure hands and proper footwork on the transfer with a strong arm. Starting from a more athletic position will engage Matt's lower half more and add to the range and overall smoothness that Matt shows flashes of. At the plate, Matt showed nice progress throughout the event and is working on developing a stride-load mechanism that will allow for more rhythm and fluidity to the stroke and unlock greater bat speed and extension through contact. Turner will benefit from adding as much experience to his resume as possible in the coming years and focusing on an arm strengthening program will be key for Matt's future success.

11/29/2015 - College PREP - Davie, FL Turner stands at 6-foot-3 and 165 pounds with long limbs and a slender build. He pitched from a low three-quarters arm angle, and got good tailing life on his fastball. He touched 79 from the windup, and hit 78 from the stretch, while his two-seamer came in at 75 mph. His breaking ball had sweeping break mostly across the zone in the upper 60s, while his change was a low 70s offering with some tailing sink from an arm stroke that very much resembled that of his fastball. He remained under control throughout his delivery, and had good front side action to keep him in line. From his slot, his arm worked more across his body out front than down, but he was able to throw a solid volume of strikes and appeared to have good feel for his secondary stuff. Overall, an interesting LHP with a chance for better future stuff as he matures physically.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
