09/28/2008 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Matt is a 3B that has improved a ton since the last time that we saw him. He cut 2 tenths off his 60 time now showing near average foot speed. He utilizes his feet well in coming to get and playing through ground balls. He shows solid range in his lateral movement. Glove action does get deep at times allowing the baseball to get deep in on his body, dictating play. Arm strength is slightly average showing some carry but he does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in developing more arm strength. He gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hitting grades have also improved, now showing solid average ability with slightly average power. He is a line drive type hitter with power numbers improving as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. He has bat speed and keeps hands inside the baseball, utilizing all fields. Hitting grades will improve quickly with instruction and adjustments at the plate. Matt has ability with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
