08/03/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Matthew is a coachable player who continues to work hard on his game. Behind the dish, he sits in well with athletic actions sticking pitches in the zone. He takes great angles laterally and bodies up pitches in the dirt, centering and keeping the ball in front. Transfer/exchange is smooth as he puts throws accurately on the bag (pop times now as low as 2.15). As a hitter, Cerrillo shows an athletic setup with good balance. Swing is short/direct to and through the zone as he connects and drives the middle of the field. More explosion with his lower 1/2 will help to create more pop off of the barrel. Matthew has leadership type qualities who takes charge on the field. He has a solid skill-set that should provide success in this his senior year.

07/06/2015 - College PREP - Cleveland, OH Matthew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.34 runner. Behind the plate, he threw his lowest pop time to date at 2.20 as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Throws are accurate with carry through his target. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At SS, he moves well laterally, flashing range and works to square balls up. Matthew attacks balls and plays through a low approach. Hands are soft / clean as he presents well out front. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup as he tracks balls well. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to be on time and keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively.

11/06/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Matt showed solid defensive skills behind the dish with good fielding techniques during Pirate City. He has quiet actions, soft / sure hands, and he fields out in front. Matt moves well to the ball, blocks extremely well, and he throws with accuracy to his target. Offensively, Matt has a balanced set-up, an activated load, and athletic actions at the plate. He has good barrel accuracy and shows some bat speed.

07/31/2014 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown Matthew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a solid 7.37 runner. Receiving / blocking skills have improved now showing as solid skills that will play well at the next level. Pop times showed in the 2.63 range with times dropping as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup and is patient at the plate. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. At the event, he was 3 for 5 with a 2B and 3 BB as he has a strong recognition of strike zone. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a great kid and is very coachable, working hard to be the best player he can be.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Pirate City Matthew is a solid player who continues to work hard on his game. At the plate, this righty maintains good balance as he waits for his pitch. He tracks the ball into the zone and drives the ball on the outer 1/2 the other way. He consistently squares the ball up and puts it in play. Behind the dish, Matthew has a gamer mentality. He works hard to get around pitches in the dirt and centers them off of his chest. He has a clean exchange and works in-line toward 2B when throwing down. Increased arm strength will aid in lowering pop times. Adding strength will benefit his overall game. A 2016 grad - Matthew will continue to improve as he still has a few years to develop.

10/27/2013 - College PREP - Rochester, NY Matt is a 2-way player as a SS/C. Defensively at SS, he shows good pre-pitch movements and works to get into a square fielding position. He fields the ball out in front and avoids the in-between hop. He turns the DP quickly and has a clean exchange. Behind the plate, Matt tracks the ball into his mitt and sticks it. He works around the ball in the dirt and centers it off of his chest. Increased arm-strength will help both at SS as well as behind the plate. At the plate, this righty shows good rhythm and delivers the barrel on a level path. He uses his lower 1/2 well and creates extension through contact. Getting back into more of a loaded position sooner will help improve contact consistency. As only a sophomore, Cerrillo still has a few years to develop his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
