01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Matthew is a catcher with a tall, athletic looking body that does show projection as it continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is above average and he utilizes his quick feet well through the throwing and blocking process. His feet work quickly and direct in synch with his upper body in displaying a quick release. Arm strength is well above average displaying plus life, carry, and accuracy on his throws. He will control the running game with his feet and arm at the next level as indicated by his low pop time of 2.09. Receiving and blocking skills are above average. At the plate, Ennis has solid average ability and power. He shows solid balance throughout the swing allowing his hands to work direct and through the baseball. He show a feel for the barrel with power numbers increasing as more overall body strength is gained. Matthew has abilities and will get some looks from the collegiate coaches in need of a quality catcher.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
