10/15/2008 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic - 2008 Alfieri showed a strong arm and excellent throwing mechanics in the outfield. After we last saw him, we recommended he play more outfield than first base - as such, he is relatively new to the OF and still working on reads off the bat, angles to balls and overall feel for the position. However, he runs well enough and shows the physical skills to eventually be solid at least. At the plate, he showed above average bat speed along with some power potential. Can work to track the ball better, and to be more aggressive in general. On the mound, he showed good balance and loose arm action. He attacked the zone with his 75-78 fastball, and got quite a few ground balls. Can work to stay closed longer with his front side, and needs to quicken his tempo. Overall, has a great body and athletic ability - needs to play and pitch more, has potential to further develop his skills.

08/23/2008 - College PREP - Purchase, NY Michael shows as a two way player in the OF and at 1B. Body is lean, athletic and shows a lot of projection as it continues to fill out. He does project best in OF at the current time. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 60 time. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet in showing range in the outfield. He reads balls off the bat well, taking good first steps in getting on routes and angles. Arm strength is above average through an easy arm action. Throws displays life, carry and accuracy into his target. In the infield, defensive abilities are average. At the plate, Alfieri shows solid average ability and near above average power. He keeps his hands inside the baseball displaying a solid middle approach. He has strength in his swing and does create some backspin when centered. Michael will catch the eyes of the college coaches with his abilities in the outfield and at the plate.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
