08/31/2008 - College PREP - Nashville, TN Michael is a catcher with a broad, strong body that is suited for the position. He is an outstanding receiver and blocker behind the dish. Set up and action are quiet and solid with an idea of what he is doing. Arm strength is solid average with carry, accuracy, but needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. Pop times will drop lower as he polishes up on his exchange and transfer. At the plate, Johnson has solid average abilities with near above average power. Bat speed is a plus and shows a feel for the barrel to the pull side. Swing path is long and hitting grades will improve with some instruction and adjustments. He has an upside at the plate. Michael will catch the eyes of the college coaches with his abilities behind the plate.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
