06/05/2008 - Under Armour Southeast Regional Tournament - 2008 Murphy once again showed as a talented and well rounded player. He pitched between 84 and 87 with his fastball, which had some sink. It went with a late breaking curve up to 73 mph, and a solid change that was up to 79. His arm had quickness and good life out front, and his delivery was balanced for the most part. He did a good job of throwing strikes with all of his pitches. He showed a strong and accurate arm from the outfield, along with good routes and enough speed to allow him to cover some ground. At the plate, he worked his hands and the barrel inside the ball fairly well and showed bat speed and some raw power. He ran 6.99 and 6.96 in the 60-yard dash, a slight improvement over the 7.00 we saw previously.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
