06/30/2008 - College PREP - Buffalo, NY Mike is an OF with a solid average body with athletic actions. Foot speed is near above average and he utilizes his quick athletic feet in tracking down balls in the outfield. He does a nice job of taking proper routes and angles in working to get behind the baseball to play through with momentum to target. Glove work and action are solid. He does need some work on his footwork to through in the outfield. He currently cuts throws off and gets uphill. As he learns to stay behind the baseball and finish throws with his feet in line with target, more carry will occur. He does need to get on a strict long toss program to continue to further develop more arm strength. At the plate, Rixford shows average ability. He tracks the ball well and shows solid balance through out his swing. He does have some mechanical flaws in his approach and path but could be corrected with some instruction and work. Mike has potential with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
