08/12/2008 - College PREP - Wilmington, DE Nic is a physical looking catcher with an accurate arm. His exchange needs to quicken which will start with his feet. Rhythm between lower half and top half are part of that equation. He is firm on the catch and deadens the ball well. He tends to lose ground on that ball in the dirt. Again, lower half needs to quicken to make him more effective on the block. His has some batspeed and good balance at the plate. His bat path is level, but he doesn't use his lower half and tends to cut off the swing. He has some feel for the barrel, and some life in it, too. As his extension improves and he learns to incorporate his lower half, he should have a chance to drive the ball consistently.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
