08/23/2008 - ACR-E - California - 3 Nicholas improved his arm strength and fielding grade. He has a strong frame and moves very well for his size. He showed the best at 3B has quick feet, stays low, and hands work well out front. He has enough arm strength to play the corner. He needs some polish but is athletic enough to make quick improvements. We also saw him catching. He showed his arm strength but he will need to improve footwork to be more projectable behind the plate. Receiving and blocking was strong average. He found the barrel consistently at the plate. Stayed through the ball well, had proper bat angle, and hit several line drives. Would like to see him work on his load and keep some of his weight centered to back. Has a good overall feel hitting. He projects best at 3B at the present time.

07/16/2008 - College PREP - Santa Barbara, CA Nick showcases well at third base, but he may project much better at first base. He shows a decent arm, with accuracy as he utilizes his feet and lower body well into his throws. He'll need to focus on a long toss program for arm strength and on shortening his arm action, for a quicker delivery. He shows decent feet on lateral movements and also shows good feel for his backhand. He fields the ball a bit deep in his fielding stance, as he tends to sit on his heels. At the plate, Nick has a small load, which may cause him to slightly jump at the ball. He still manages to have good balance through the swing and great extension after contact. He stays inside the ball quite well, giving him good bat path, and good bat speed. Nick has fence power to all fields, but he will increase his hitting ability by allowing the ball to deepen in his swing. Nick's polished swing along with his increasing power will land him at a quality college program.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
