07/14/2008 - College PREP - Cedar Hill (DFW), TX Payton is a 2B with a strong looking body. Foot speed is average and he needs to improve to play in the middle of the infield at the next level. Feet are aggressive and active in coming to get the baseball. Glove action is late and deep allowing the baseball to get deep in on the body, dictating play. He shows a solid arm action but needs to get on a strict long toss program to further aid in development of more arm strength. At the plate, Roberts shows solid average ability and power. Swing path is long but shows a feel for the barrel to the pull side. Power is limited to the pull side due to long swing path. Payton has potential with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
