12/27/2008 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic 2008 Preston continues to show steady improvement in his baseball abilities. He still shows as a two way player with abilities at both positions. Arm strength has improved showing and accurate arm with carry across the diamond. Defensive abilities have also improved to average as he catches everything he gets too. Foot speed is below average and needs to continue to improve foot quickness for the next level. At the plate, Fink shows pull power and makes solid contact. On the mound, Preston shows solid mechanics through a repeatable delivery. Fastball displays solid arm side run and works both sides of the plate. He mixes his pitches well, keeping hitters off stride. Currently, he does project better on the mound for the collegiate level.

11/09/2008 - College PREP - Austin, TX Preston is a two way player on the mound and at 3B with a tall, thin frame that does show projection as it continues to physically mature. He utilizes his tall frame to work on a strong downhill plane creating angles. Arm strength is average and does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength and raise velocities. Changeup is best off speed pitch showing average feel with late action. Breaking ball displays a flat break with loose spin and needs further development to be effective at the next level. In the infield, defensive abilities are near average. Foot speed is well below average and needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve. He centers ground balls but does need to come get, playing through more with feet and hands. His throws are accurate across the diamond. At the plate, Fink has average ability with below average power. He keeps hands and barrel through the baseball well and makes solid contact. Hitting grades and power numbers will increase quickly with some instruction and adjustments on his set up and approach. Preston has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
