07/29/2008 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament - 2008 Nipper is an interesting player. He showed marked improvement during the UA SW. He projects best at first base with smooth hands and glove extension. His arm strength is more than enough to play the position. His fluid, classic left handed stroke, direct hands and ability to stay inside the baseball will project more power as he gets stronger. He has great potential at the plate if he can settle his feet and work on a more consistent rhythm. Nipper also showed some upside on the hill as well. He improved his velocity (79-81) with arm side run and flashed better arm speed with his 1 to 7 breaking curve (69-71). He has well above average command and control as well. If he can work for a better finish and use his body more he may still develop more arm speed.

05/18/2008 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Riley is a tall athletic player with potential at two positions at the next level. On the mound, Riley has solid arm action and a feel for his off speed pitches. He needs to work on keeping his glove side arm up to help him turn his upper body faster. His delivery is slightly above average. At the plate, Riley has bat speed and some pop to the pull side. He gets to the ball and extends nicely. With work on creating a repeatable swing with balance, his hitting ability should increase. At 1B, Riley has soft hands and arm speed. His throws are accurate and he has sound footwork around the bag. He makes all the plays and gets rid of the ball quickly. He is an above average defender.

05/20/2007 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Riley is primarily a LHP. On the mound, he shows a good feel for his offspeed stuff. Delivery is repeatable with balance throughout, good direction, and loose arem action. Would like to see him land closed and be more aggressive with the backside. Young with a good frame and a clean arm. Lot of upside. With the glove, he takes some good angles, but he plays high and gets the glove down late. With the bat, Riley has good balance, but is too rotational and bars out. Would like to see him let the ball travel. Future looks to be on the mound.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
