Official Scouting Report

01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Robert continues to show a lot of improvement in his baseball abilities. He continues to show as a two way player in the middle of the infield and on the mound. Foot speed has really improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.03 runner. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet in coming to get and playing through the baseball with his feet and hands. His hands and feet work well together through the fielding and throwing process. Backhand is soft, solid and he is not afraid to use it. Arm strength has also improved as he topped out on the mound at 86 mph. Breaking ball is now above average displaying a 10/4 shape with slurvy action. Command and control is now well above average will all his pitches. Dittrick has a ton of ability and could be a solid two way player at the collegiate level.

09/21/2008 - College PREP - Azusa, CA Robert is an athletic, strong baseball player and continues to physically mature each time we see him. At SS, had good preliminary movement with good, athletic footwork. Showed soft hands with quick transfer, especially on DP turn. Made accurate throws to 1B and throws had some life with good carry. Getting around ball will allow him to get body in front of ball and play thru it. At the plate, showed athletic actions while attacking ball. Had good pre-pitch load that allowed him to throw hips and barrel at ball. Level swing will allow him to extend thru ball better and develop better spin on ball. On the mound, showed ability to repeat delivery which allowed him to attack zone. Utilized lower half and extended thru pitches. Deception will improve when his arm speed is the same for all pitches. Release point will be consistent when he is direct to home plate and not across his body.

06/29/2008 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Robert is a RHP that shows some projection in his body as it continues to physically mature. Arm strength is average and he needs to get on a strict long toss program to further develop. His fast ball does show glove side run and is effective if located. Breaking ball is near above average showing a 10/4 shape with tight spin. Change up is average as he does tip it off at times by slowing his arm speed down. Slider looks and shows as a cutter and is effective when located. Dittrick command is well above average with all his pitches as he works both sides of the plate. He shows a lot of poise on the mound. If velocity continues to improve, Robert will draw interest from the college coaches.

01/20/2008 - National Tryout - Honolulu, HI Robert is athletic and strong with the ability to play two positions although he is probably more suited for the infield right now. In the infield, he shows a strong accurate arm with ease and life. Stays down to field and has a good approach. Gets rid of the ball quickly but stands a little too tall which decreases velocity behind the ball. Staying low with knees bent will help body stay in an athletic position longer. Swing is level with balance and rhythm. Extends well and uses the whole field. Hitting power and ability should get better as he grows into his body. Also pitches with loose arm action but as mentioned, he his more suited for the infield at this point. Robert still has plenty of time to increase stock and can do so with work.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
