08/11/2008 - College PREP - San Diego, CA Ryan is young player that is a multi-sport athlete and is prioritizing baseball while in its off-season. He has good size and shows strength in his frame. On the mound, Ryan showed an above average, down-hill fastball that he will need to show more command of, as it was around the plate, but not consistent to a spot. His curveball was decent and he'll need to continue to get a feel for his change-up, as it does have some movement to it. A few areas of improvement are in his mechanics, which will have a positive effect on his control. He'll need to work on maintaining his direction with his landing foot and continue it with his upper body, during and post delivery. This will also help with his release point and it will also add velocity to his pitches. At the plate, he showed a balanced stance, followed by a nice short stroke to the ball. He has a tendency to pull off rather early after contact and will show better power by implementing a stronger top hand in his swing. Overall, Ryan has time to develop strength and mechanics. Continued work in and out of season will help him reach his goals of playing college baseball.
