01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Scott is a two way player at SS and on the mound with a tall, strong looking body that does show future projection as it continues to physically mature. He does project at both positions. Foot speed is slightly average and does need to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Defensive abilities are near above average as he utilizes his feet well in playing through the baseball. Glove action is soft, clean, and sure in making all the plays. He shows a solid backhand and is not afraid to use it. Arm strength is near above average and would benefit from a strict long toss program to aid in continuing to build more arm strength. At the plate, Ackley has solid average abilities and power. He flashes bat speed but does have some mechanical flaws hindering him from reaching his full potential. Hitting grades and power grades will improve quickly with instruction and adjustments at the plate. He has a good eye as he drew 3 BB at the event. On the mound, delivery is easy and solid through his large body that is well suited for the position. Fastball is true with two near above average off speed pitches. He attacks the strike zone and works to get ahead of hitters. As more arm strength is developed, his stock on the mound will rise. Scott has abilities and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches, especially on the mound where he has a feel to pitch.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
