08/10/2008 - College PREP - Gaffney, SC Shaun continues to show as a two way player and has improved his defensive abilities in the middle of the infield since the last time that we saw him. Foot speed has also improved and he displays active feet on his approach in coming to get the baseball. Glove action is soft, sure and solid, presenting down and out in front of his body. Infield actions may be best suited for 3B at the next level. At the plate, abilities are solid average as he makes solid contact and shows a feel for the barrel to the pull side. On the mound is where Le Claire still projects the best at the next level. Fastball shows solid arm side run with command to both sides of the plate. He has polished his delivery displaying proper direction with great tempo. He gets his body into a solid power position aiding in command of all his pitches. Off speed is solid average and will need some more development and polish to be effective at the next level. He does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. Shaun has an upside with a ton of potential and will draw a lot of interest to himself with his abilities on the mound.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
