03/13/2016 - College PREP - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Shawn is a lanky RHP who will graduate in 2016 with an upside on the mound. On the bump, this righty throws a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and loose/free arm action. He works through a strong balance point and has smooth overall actions. Arm strength is solid as indicated by his top velocity of 81 mph. FB ranges from 80-81 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball has 11/5 downward shape with late break. He throws a split finger that shows outstanding sink. Off speed stuff show as outstanding pitches that will get outs. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Shawn has the makings of a solid arm on the mound as he continues to develop.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
