08/10/2008 - College PREP - Gaffney, SC Stephen is an outfielder with a body that shows projection as it continues to fill out. Arm strength is solid average and shows carry into his target. He throws from an over hand slot but does need to work on better footwork to throw. He needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. Foot speed is solid average and he utilizes his feet well in taking proper routes and angles in working behind the baseball to play through with momentum to target. He reads the ball off the bat well and shows great range. At the plate, Butler has near average ability. He makes consistent contact and finds the barrel to the pull side. Hitting and power grades will improve with some instruction and adjustments at the plate. Stephen has ability with room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
