01/11/2008 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2008 Calhoun has a slight build on a medium frame, giving him some room to fill out. He has two-way potential at the college level. His fastball topped at 93 mph, and sat mostly around 89-90 mph. It was mostly straight, but had some deception from his whippy arm action - the ball really jumped out of his hand. His 72-76 mph breaking ball had late, sharp action on two planes - his best ones were in the near Major League average range. He can work to use his lower body better, to allow him to back down the effort on his average fastball - hopefully this will help improve his command. Showed smooth actions in the infield, along with good lateral range. His transfer was good, and he showed the ability to carry his throws across the infield. At the plate, he showed quick hands and good overall bat speed. His stroke tended to get a little long, but it got off his bat with good life. Has more present value on the mound, though his two-way potential certainly makes him a more appealing college prospect.
